Put simply, we’re building designers, but some may be unfamiliar with the term. As building designers, we design and plan new buildings, including designing and planning renovations to building and extensions as well. Part of building design also includes working with builders and getting approvals on the designs from architects, engineers, and relevant authorities.
As building designers, we here at Perl Building Design are equipped to not only design your next residential project, but also see that project through while working closely with builders, project managers, and the relevant authorities to ensure a project is completed with minimal troubles.
It’s usually best to involve a building designer at the beginning of a project. It’s our job as building designers to make an idea come to life. We start with obtaining a brief on the project, create a rough design for consideration, and then complete the design as both building plans and computer generated 3D models for the client to see and understand what the final project will look like. From there we see the project through to the end, working closely with a builder and even obtaining relevant permits.
For many projects, especially residential projects, an architect isn’t needed. Building designers are qualified and licensed to create the designs and documentations a builder will need to construct everything from a small renovation to a luxury residence. For larger projects requiring more extensive project management and administration, a licensed architect may be required. We’re always happy to advise a client on this.
We have a great network of builders we’ve worked with before, but also frequently work with builders selected by the client. If you’re simply in the design and ideation part of your project, we’re happy to speak to clients about their design ideas before making a rough brief and preliminary sketches. From there, we’re more than happy to connect clients with a builder or builders that would suit the project. Alternatively if the client already has a builder in mind, we’re happy to get involved in the project as early as possible.
This will depend on the specifics of the project. Many projects can be designed to Australian Standards without the need of an engineer. However, there may be some projects or aspects of a project that require the design or consultation of an engineer. The need for engineering can be established during the briefing and design phase of a project.
